Top 5 Fears of Family Photos {Photography Tip, Antioch IL Photographer}

I know taking family photos, especially if you have young little kids can be scary! I have a two year old who I try to take photos of daily. With my two year old I have experienced all the ups and downs that come with trying to get a nice photograph. I wanted to take some time and share with you the top fears parents have when taking family photos.

  1. Fear: My kid(s) won’t cooperate.

    Reassurance: It’s ok, nothing beats a photographer’s child and I understand that some kids take longer to warm up before letting their personality shine. The key is for you to relax and not worry and your little one(s) will follow along.
    Helpful Tip: Let’s plan a session time that will work best for when your little one is at their happiest during the day. Is it early in the morning or later in the evening, I will work with you to pick a time that will work best for all little ones involved.Antioch IL Photography Tips 1

  2. Fear: My kid(s) won’t smile.

    Reassurance: There is always something that makes a little one smile…be it a silly song, a tickle from mom and dad or a fart noise…a smile will happen during the session. I aim to make the session fun and exciting so you don’t have to worry about your little one(s) not smiling.
    Helpful Tip: Share with me the secret info about what your little one loves…movie, cartoon, book, song. It will give me something to chat about with them and smiles will shine when they are talking about something they love.

  3. Fear: My kid(s) will have a huge meltdown.

    Reassurance: It won’t be the first or last kid to have a meltdown at a photo session…take it in stride and so will I. There is no rush during family photos and that is to allow for any necessary snack breaks, extra snuggles, or just quiet moments to let your little one(s) relax.
    Helpful Tip: Make sure to bring favorite snacks or ‘lovies’ and don’t worry about taking a moment to calm your little one down. I hold no judgement for any meltdown, remember I have a two year old who is currently going through the start of his meltdown moments.Family Photography Tips 2

  4. Fear: It’s not worth it and I can just take photos with my phone.

    Reassurance: It is worth it…if you are taking the photo how will you be in the photo? Photos are a form of family heirlooms and it’s so important for your little ones to have photos of their entire family together. Just think of them being able to show their future family what they looked like as a little one.
    Helpful Tip: My goal is to make the entire experience fun and stress free for you so that years later you will look back at these photos so happy you have them.

  5. Fear: We don’t have anything nice to wear.

    Reassurance: I can help you! We can work together to plan outfits. I have a Pinterest board of outfit color schemes and ideas that can help you. Planning outfits isn’t as hard as you may think.
    Helpful Tip: You don’t need fancy outfits to look amazing. Wear what you feel comfortable in and it will show in your smiles. Stick with simple classic looks and your photos will never become funny family historical memes.

Woodbury Family {Lake County IL, Newborn Photographer}

Letting a photographer in your home to capture your family often leads to deeper relationships than you envisioned. I can honestly say that many, if not all, of my families are more than my clients. We become friends that share life stories with each other and spend time after each session chatting. I remember the first time I met this little family. We met in a Starbucks and big sister joined Mom and I in chatting about little brother’s photos. That little coffee date has lead to a great friendship. This little family is moving on to another journey in their lives and I’m so happy to have been part of their year in Lake County. We’ve already promised to stay in touch and I can’t wait to meet the newest member of their little bunch.

It may be sappy but I love looking back over the year with this family and seeing how much they have grown. It’s clear that a lot has happened with this little bunch and every session we did they became cuter and cuter. A perfect way to end our time together…a standing little baby that I first met inside his mommy’s tummy!

I am beyond blessed…this little dream of mine is growing every day! I have met so many amazing families this past year that at times I feel like I have to pinch myself. As I sit and look back at 2014 I am in awe of the moments I have captured for families and the trust that you have given to me in capturing these moments.  I can’t wait to see what 2015 has in store for me and you!  I can’t wait to watch all of my little babies grow up and meet all the new little ones waiting to arrive.  I can’t wait to watch couples start their lives together and families celebrate milestones.
From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU! You have made 2014 an amazing year!

Landon Turns 6 Months {Racine WI, Newborn Photographer}

I have some of the best friends in the world.  This lady has been with me for about 10 years now…crazy how fast time flies! During that time we’ve seen each other get married and she has had two adorable little babies. The littlest one is already six months old.  I feel like it was just yesterday when he was born and we were doing his newborn photos! This past fall we were so blessed with a crazy beautiful sunset and gorgeous orange leaves all around to capture some family photos and little six month photos. I love the six month mark in little babies…they have the best facial expressions around and Landon did not disappoint!

Fall Time with the B Family {Lake County IL, Family Photographer}

This little family is so great to hang out with…I love how the girls promise me they will share their Halloween candy with me and they tell me all about their toys and adventures. I also love how during our two hours together C can chat away the entire time with me. I’ve gotten to photograph this little family quite a few times and each time it seems like we have more fun!

I hope these girls continue to bring their parents the joy and adventures I know are hidden deep inside of them!
