Print Image Inspiration – Image Boxes

Talk to any photographer and they will tell you to print your images and don’t just have them on your computer. I can’t help but agree. But you don’t have to print your images and put them in a boring photo album there are tons of other fun ways to print, display, and store your images. One of my current favorite ways to store the images of my little guy is in personalized photo boxes. I am 100% guilty of taking a million photos of my little guy and I created personalized image boxes to store all my photos. I broke my boxes down to 3-month increments because I had so much to put inside each box.

I customized these boxes to match with my little guy’s room decor and each box has personalized photos from that time period on the cover. It’s so amazing to sit down and look at the photos from when my little man was a newborn. I know it’s only been 8 1/2 months but I still feel like he’s grown so much already.

These boxes can also double as little keepsake boxes. I have a mixture of ultrasound images, hospital bracelets, and images in my son’s Newborn box.

I can just imagine sitting down with my son when he is older and looking through all the images of him as a baby. Sharing with him, stories from when he was as a baby and how much his mom and dad love him.

Mommy Chat: The “fear” of being a new mommy

Ok, I’m going to be open and honest with you since we are all mommies or soon-to-be mommies. Who has felt the mommy fear? The fear that you have no idea what you are doing! I’m not talking about postpartum depression or anxiety, or the mommy guilt, I’m talking about the natural fear you have when you are now responsible for molding and teaching this little person everything there is in life and you have no idea what you are doing or how to accomplish such a large task.

This fear has hit me big time lately as my little guy is getting bigger and experiencing new things in life. We started swim lessons a few weeks ago and that was a huge fear moment for me. I had a million questions run through my brain…“Is he old enough for this…Is he ready for this…What if he hates it…What if he poops in the pool…” all reasonable and normal questions. My husband and I decided to give it a try, figuring the worst thing is we stop and try again later when he is a little older. The first class comes along and my fear starts to come true…my little man was not happy to be in the pool. There were tears and lots of clasped hands.  We left the class doubting our decision and wondering if we should just stop the lessons.

Next week comes along and my husband and I are faced to answer the question of “do we go again”? Making my baby cry is like pure torture to me and I knew tears could be in our future. We decided though, to go again and give it one more chance. This time, little man loved the water! He smiled, splashed and even went into the instructors arms for underwater time without looking back for mommy. My fear was crushed, we are going to be just fine and putting him in swim lessons was perfectly ok to do.

What I’m learning, as a mom, is that you will doubt yourself, your choices, and the actions you take raising your child; but, in the end, everything will be alright. Having fear is normal, we have a big responsibility on our plates to create kind, smart, loving adults and I would think not having fear about your choices would make you crazy!

What is something you have feared with raising your little one?

Macro Monday ~ Tiny Toes {Lake County IL, Newborn Photographer}

I love how itty bitty toes and feet can be.  They are all pink and rosy, no imperfections to see, no miles yet put on their soles. Looking at little feet always makes me wonder, where will these little feet take this little one?  Will they experience sandy beaches, soft green grass, squishy carpets or even the coolness of ocean water? Will they carry them for miles running through the trails or down snowy slopes? I love remembering what it was like running through the grass in the summer and dipping my toes in the ocean for the first time. I’m pretty sure we’ve all experienced stepping on the thorn bushes before we realized what those prickly little plants were or dipping our toes in the cold salty ocean water for the first time. I image these little toes having that first wave of water rush over them and followed by shrills and giggles as they quickly run back before experiencing the next wave.  These little toes have so many experiences to encounter!

What is the biggest memory you have with your toes?  Were you like my husband and tried walking across newly laid asphalt barefoot in the summer and burned your feet? Or were you like me and kept your feet tucked away in socks and shoes afraid to get a scratch on your toes?

Macro Monday ~ Lashes For Days {Lake County IL, Newborn Photographer}

It’s so amazing how precious even the tiniest of details on new little babies melt your heart. Eyelashes are the perfect example of this tiny detail that I love looking at and smiling. When you think about how tiny your eye lashes are as an adult, it’s even more amazing to see how itty bitty newborn eye lashes are! These delicate pieces of hair are guarding precious brown / blue / hazel eyes. When I photograph eye lashes I love to make them the sole focus of the image…they are so tiny, they deserve to be so big.

Sugar & Spice Inspiration {Lake County IL, Newborn Photographer}

Overall, when it comes to styling your little newborn I just adore it! My husband has to put me on a prop budget or I would go overboard!  I love seeing the latest trends in photography props and colors. I wanted to start a little fun where I share some items that inspire my color choices and share some of my associated props.

This week I’m starting with “The Classic” for little girls…pink.

I love little girls in pink.  Pink reminds me of sweet squishy newborn lips and beautiful little stork kisses. It’s a color that never goes out of style and helps gently share that your little one is a girl.  I like to add pink in the photos with the use of a little headband, knit hat, or even a stretchy wrap.

When it comes to matching a color with pink you can never go wrong with white or cream!  These colors helps balance the color scheme and really brings the focus to your little one.  I love using a neutral blanket that brightens up your little one and makes them just glow! My favorite blanket has a nice little knit texture to it that adds even more softness to your little one and helps show their sweetness and delicateness.

When it comes to where I get my cute little pink headbands, one of my favorite vendors Abbey from The Pleated Polka Dot.  She is so quick when you order items and they fit perfectly on all sizes.  I love the width of the headbands and how they add just a pop of color to your daughter without being to large or the center of attention in the photo. You can see more from The Pleated Polka Dot here.

Below are a few of my favorite images with pink.
What do you think of this classic color ?
